IMAGES FESTIVAL 2013
OCCUPY UTOPIA
How does a former child soldier and world famous hip hop artist from Sudan imagine a better world? What does it sound like when Nepalese musicians play punk? With what words does a prize-winning exiled Syrian author describe his utopian visions?
Since 1991 several thousand artists from more than 60 countries in Africa, Latin America, The Middle East and Asia have presented their art-works at one of the largest festivals of international contemporary arts and culture in Denmark, IMAGES FESTIVAL. The next festival takes place at three spectacular venues in Copenhagen and two other major Danish cities Aalborg and Aarhus in the period August 30 – September 7 2013.
The theme of this year’s IMAGES FESTIVAL is OCCUPY UTOPIA. Many people may associate OCCUPY with the Arab Spring and the European and American protest movements. To many people UTOPIA is the name of a perfect place – an imagined reality- that only exists in our dreams or in literature.
Occupy Denmark with arts and create utopias through arts!
This invitation has been sent out to professional artists from more than 40 countries in Africa, Latin America, The Middle East and Asia. They are all artists who play significant roles both outside and in the countries where they live and work.
At IMAGES FESTIVAL you will get the opportunity to explore what UTOPIA looks, sounds and smells like, when a unique diversity of recognized artists from several African, Asian, Latin American and European countries get together.
We believe that they through films, photography, literature, dance, theatre, music and other arts will inspire the Danish audience as well as each other and come up with visions for a better world.
